Descripción de la actividad
The current global situation has accelerated the search for clean and sustainable energy solutions, free of CO₂, to replace the dependence on traditional sources. In this context, Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and nuclear fusion are emerging as two of the most promising technologies for the energy future. SMRs, with their modular and scalable design, offer a safe, economical, and flexible option, while nuclear fusion, although still under development, has the potential to provide an almost unlimited source of clean energy.
This summer course, promoted by the ENSA Chair of Advanced Technologies, aims to be a meeting point between industry experts and young academic talents to discuss the progress, challenges, and outlook of these technologies. Key topics will include the evolution of SMR designs, innovations in materials, and their integration into the energy landscape, as well as the latest advances in nuclear fusion research and its commercial viability.
The program will also emphasize the importance of collaboration between companies, research centers, and universities, highlighting the leadership of the Nuclear Industry Cluster of Cantabria (CINC) and the University of Cantabria—key institutions in driving these technologies in the region. This course will provide a comprehensive view of how these advanced technologies are shaping a new energy era, with a promising future for global sustainability.
